Good Friday

 · Poetry

difficult

to /stay/ awake,

waiting all year

to hear

Mark E. Smith

warm and flushed

again, knobbing

the amp

so bass leaps

woozy

in his

     live mix.

   drink hot vanilla-

infused tea

      for the caffeine, /slice/

      boiled eggs

lengthwise.

pale congealed

yolks,

cupped

in mirrored

white-marble

jiggle

flesh.

join the chorus

with a goodfriday

      touring revue, king&I

      southpacific, /chew/

delivery pizza

in wichita

shamrock

motel.

hope passports

will turn up again—only

this time with plump

apostle faces, sweet

oil&gas last

names, clean

enough to /carry/

us home.
